SOUL Post: Art Meets Music!

Hi guys,

I bring to you Social Architek's event: 'Art Meets Music'. This takes place monthly at the lovely Arch gallery in Bethnal Green.

Here you can chill out after work, sip on cocktails and socialise while listening to amazing emerging singer/songwriters and poets perform. In between you can view beautiful artwork on display by London's up and coming talented artists.

I was always meaning to go and finally made it last thursday (25th September 2014), the night was presented  by Venus vs Mars Actress/Presenter Letitia Hector.

The whole night was a WIN! One of my new favourite singer/songwriters Rukhsana Merrise performed as well as singer/songwriter Mallie & poet Samuel King. Let me not forget the DJ Kookie a female DJ who was playing classic Hip Hop & R&B- class!

Tickets were free so it was an absolute must. I had the chance of meeting some great people- whats not to love?

Come down one and all next month!

Song Spirit & Soul: Photoshoot in the city!

Hey guys, happy Friday!

As you know I will be releasing my first EP 'Heart Strings' very soon. I'm kind of nervous about it but looking forward to the feedback you all can share on the songs I have written.

Last weekend I went shopping with the shoot in mind. I didn't want my outfit to look too put together but just to reflect myself. I would say I dress quite feminine, classy/chic with a slight edge to it. Headed to Westfield- Shepherds Bush with an idea of what I was looking for, first stop was River Island (a change for me as Miss Selfridge is my love). I tried on a lot of different items but went for the Inverted Collar Blazer in pink;I figured this would ad a subtle dash of pink and feminism to my outfit. It fits so well and because of the cut and material feels a lot more expensive than it is. I also picked up a super cute T No 1 New York Boutique Paris in white, similar to another blogger's but hers said 'Chanel No.5', I could not resist! I then ventured around stores taking a look around and stumbled into H&M. It really has become a second Primark for me in my eyes! The sale rack was amazing I found so many bargains- right up my street! Next purchase of the night, yes night it was 9.45pm by now was Topshop. I was looking for some good jeans, and Topshop have great jeans for great prices. I went for the MOTO Hyper Blue Wash Joni Jeans, they are super comfortable being stretchy and they have a great fit overall. I'm really into high waisted trousers/jeans at the moment. So these were my finds, accessories wise I planned on gold. These items I had already, that I picked up in December from H&M: Chain Bracelet in gold, a Gold Torque Collar from Miss Selfridge and Heart Diamond Studs (cannot remember where from), and a gold ring a gift from my mum. Shoes to be decided on the day (London weather is so unpredictable).

So today I finally had a mini shoot around London, with a great photographer/visual artist called Mattish. We had planned the shoot and decided on the location and the overall vibe that we were going for. The weather was not as great today so I could not wear my Kurt Geiger heels as I wanted to; so went for my go-to flats at the moment from Top Shop! We took many shots around the London-South Bank area. I'll be uploading pictures soon. Cannot wait to see how they turn out as I haven't seen any of the shots yet!

Hope you all have a great weekend. What have you got planned? I plan to work out tomorrow, accidentally raided the sweets this evening lol.

SOUL Post: Shake Shak

Hey Guys,

So last Sunday after Hillsong my friend and I decided to go on the hunt for some food! It was nice because we haven't caught up in FOREVER!

We headed to Covent Garden for burgers. The dilemma was 'Five Guys' or 'Shake Shak' .... We went for the latter. Shake Shak seems to be slightly higher on the Richter scale. Also, outside Five Guys the queue was ridiculous literally round the block, anyone would think here was a movie premiere!

To Shake Shack we went. Walked through the infamous Covent Garden piazza and there it was. The seating area seemed to be pretty much open, which was interesting. The queue was long but manageable. We were given a menu whilst we queued so by time we reached the till we knew exactly what we wanted to order. I went for the ShackBurger w/ added bacon (£6.50), Fries (£2.50) and decided to try their Shack-made Lemonade (£2.75).

We were given a buzzer which was handy so we could quickly grab seats while we waited for our order. I was quite surprised by the sheer number of staff. Five minutes later and our food was ready.

The first port of call for me were the fries. Very very good they were. Crisp and crunchy on the outside and soft potato goodness inside. Delicious. However I felt that they were a little on the warm/luke warm end. Now for the burger, it did not disappoint it was delicious. The brioche buns soft and fluffy with a slightly crisp exterior. The patty was cooked well done as I requested but was still juicy, I do think a double would add that extra bit of flavour and substance. The smoked bacon crisp along with the cheese and fresh salad made this burger. I would however have loved some extra Shack Sauce. I did enjoy my meal. My friend and I were both hungry afterwards, so I suggest going for double burgers as it is not very filling.

I would definetly re-visit Shake Shack, most likely when a little warmer to try their custard shakes everyone raves about. I would give Shake Shack a 7/10.

Life of a Year 2 Commercial Music Student: It's Christmas

Hi guys!

Wow. Christmas is 9 days away now. I cannot wait, this has always been my favourite season. I don't know what it is about christmas but I can feel the magic in the air.

So semester 1 at uni is over! Bitter sweet, as the intensity heightens to the release of the EP but it's nice to have a rest. The studios at uni closed for a whole month last Thursday! Shock horror. But gives time to work on the theory side of things. One hell of a semester it's been, literally studio studio studio, essay, studio, essay.

On Friday I submitted assignment 1 for released recording. It was something. 12 ideas and 6 unmixed demos. As everyone wanted to use the studios it was literally impossible to get a studio. And when I did I fainted, yes fainted on the day my assignment was due. I managed to record with my trustee c214 mic despite it and my two friends brought me to safety lol. But on top of that my logic projects didn't bounce in time so I had to work with what I had. This is something that I've learnt a lot this semester. You have to be quick and time does not wait; literally. No pun intended there.

When setbacks arise don't get down and :

Bring on the festivities. Eating & being merry. Stay tuned as I write the top happenings for 2013!!

Have you got anything planned this christmas? What is on your playlist this christmas?

SOUL Post: Halloween Madness

Hi guys!

It seems like this year Halloween festivities are in overdrive. Its like the 5th November and people are still wearing their fancy dress costumes. I've been seeing witches on the tube, cats on buses and pumpkins everywhere.

Usually I'm oblivious to Halloween. I've celebrated once and that was like 10 years ago I'd say. Oh. and before that I was a mere toddler, in America with cousins where trick or treating meant heaps and heaps of candy!

So I didn't want to feel left out, after presenting at my university radio show my friend and I ventured out to KERB its a mini street food haunt in Kings Cross. We thought it would be easy to find. Easy it was not. We were feet from the venue and we could not find it. The arrow pointed straight ahead, leading to the grounds of a school. Central St Martins College of Arts and Design to be exact. It is such a beautiful building. The architecture is incredible. Even the lighting was perfect. So in the end we followed a family, who led us by longest route to KERB. It was right within the university really. It was great, smoke, lights a fully stocked bar, DJs and food stalls all "halloweened" up.

After much deliberation I decided to try my luck with Bao. BAO is a new addition to London eats a small six seater Bar and a Market Stall, located in Netil Market, Westgate Street, E8 3RL. So Bao is a Taiwanese for bun, their classic is filled with slow braised pork belly, pickles, peanut powder and coriander all of which is made in house; even the milk to make the buns they cure themselves!

The classic bun became bun of darkness (£3.50): Squid Ink Bao, Evil Pig, Blood Sauce, Coriander, Mummified Pickles & Peanut ashes. SO GOOD! A small spicy delight full of texture and flavour. I wanted to go back for another. Definitely the highlight for me.

I rounded of with a little sweet treat from Kooky Bakes a London-based bakery of award winning small batch baked goods. I tried a red velvet cake pop (£2.50), a red velvet sponge with cream cheese dipped in white chocolate; of course for Halloween it was an eyeball. Delish. I was a little upset I was only able to have one bite, the rest fell on the ground. I should have been patient, but could not wait until I got home. Tisk Tusk.

If you're in London KERB is definitely a place to visit if you're a foodie. Find them on the Kings Boulevard Tuesday-Friday from 12-2.30pm.

Happy November ALL!
